MONEY AND BANKING

As one of the key players in the financial system, a developed banking sector is crucial is primordial in the economic development of every nation. In Cameroon this sector is amongst the fastest growing as evident by the number of microfinance institutions, credit unions, commercial banks and other financial service providers that spring up every day. Through the process of financial intermediation these financial institutions have helped in mobilizing savings from the surplus units to the deficit units. With the distinction between commercial banks and other financial institutions becoming much blued, the main objective of the department of money and banking is to increase the level of financial literacy in the areas of money, banking and finance. This is because new monetary and banking developments have changed the way things are being done in the market, the way we think, and the way the economy functions. Thus the department of money and banking is there to provide high quality training through theoretical and practical skills and to produce graduates who will be able to understand the changing nature of the banking and finance industry and to also adapt to the changing global economy. Distinguishing Attributes Our curriculum is structured in way that more weight is given to the practical application of knowledge and skills. We believe that this approach is an advantage to our graduates because they can create their own jobs. We equally provide internship facilities to our students in some of the best financial institutions in Cameroon. Under the supervision of school members, we equally organise field trips to give our students the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts in the fields of money, banking and Finance. Finally, we provide competence in the field of money, banking and finance by giving our students the opportunity to improve their written, oral communication and other management skill sets. Teaching Staff Apart from old lecturers who have accumulated many years of working experience in the financial services sector, the department also has a blend of young, dynamic and energetic lecturers ready to add value. All the lecturers continuously publish in top ranking journals in the field. Quality of Graduates From our curriculum, the goal is to train students who will create their own jobs or who are frequently demanded by financial institutions around the globe. They will have the aptitude and skill set to improve the management of private sector financial institutions as well as to design the financial and monetary policies in public sector institutions such as the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. Career Opportunities Apart of acquiring skills to be self-employed, graduates of the department of money and banking have excellent job opportunities in private financial institutions as well as in key government ministries and agencies, including the central bank. Our mission is developing requisite knowledge, attitudes and application of skills aimed at proving our students with state of the art and contemporary education in the areas of money, banking and Finance.
